An “examen prayer” is a spiritual practice of reflective meditation designed to help you recognize God's presence as you review your actions.
Become aware of God’s presence. Give thanks that God is with you, that he loves you, and that he is here. Rest in his presence.
Review the past day with gratitude. Consider the moments of your day like a collection of photos on your phone. As you flip through each one in your mind, give thanks where you can.
Consider moments of living on mission:
Were there any points in the day when you lived on mission today (when you joined in God’s movement of restorative love towards people and His creation, whether or not anyone noticed)?
Did you see anyone else living on mission today?
Were there any times when someone witnessed Christ in you, through your words, actions and character? Did you see anyone else witness today?
Were there any moments when you practiced evangelism, sharing the story of Jesus with those who don’t know him? Did you see anyone else practice evangelism today?
Thank God for the various things you noticed from today.
Pay attention to your emotions. What were your feelings in these moments, or as you consider them now? What is God saying through these feelings?
Choose one moment of the day and pray about it. Ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to something during the day that God thinks is particularly important. Bring that moment to Jesus, and pray about it.
Look toward tomorrow and pray for hope. Ask God to give you light for tomorrow’s challenges. Ask for his guidance, help, and understanding.
