A Relevant Gospel
The gospel, or God’s big story, relates to every person and every situation around us, but sometimes it can be hard to see exactly how, especially in the moment when we’re talking to someone or just hanging out with friends who don’t know Jesus themselves. Today, we’ll take time together to reflect on how the gospel is relevant to our friends and their situations, both to help us understand it better and to be prepared for the opportunities we may have to share it with them.
Think of one or two specific friends who don’t know Jesus, and reflect on these questions as it relates to them.
What are their passions or interests?
How do those fit into God’s big story?
What would it sound like to talk about that with them?
What are their struggles or needs right now?
How does the gospel speak to these things?
What is something true that it might help them to hear?
Where do their views already align with God’s in some way, even if it’s small?
What could it sound like to point that out to them?
Are there ways you have already seen them be open to God? If so, how?
What could it sound like to share what you’ve observed with them?
What gospel truths might they already be open to hearing?
What are things that you don’t yet know about them that might help you see how to make gospel connections for them?
What questions could you ask them to get to know these things?
Share with the group one or two things that you each reflected on, and a way you might bring that up in conversation with that friend.
Where was it hard for you to make gospel connections? Take a minute to share and help each other think about how it could sound to make that connection.
Pray together that we would continue to see how gospel is good news for the people in our lives; pray for the friends you were thinking of, that they might experience the gospel as relevant good news.
