We know that the gospel, or God’s big story, is good news. There are many ways that this is true, so let’s spend a moment right now to reflect on this in our own lives. Taking the time to do this, even in small ways, can help us experience and share the gospel more readily day to day.
Ask: What is one way that the gospel is good news to you right now?
Give the group one minute to reflect before beginning to share.
If someone is struggling to think of a way that the gospel is good news for them right now, you could ask them to think of an area where they need good news, and brainstorm as a group some ways that the gospel speaks to that.
One way you could explore this together might be to ask about a circumstance that is hard or a struggle they are facing, and then ask what is the story they are telling themself in that. The way the gospel is good news becomes clearer when you understand the story you are telling yourself.
ie. I have a really stressful midterm coming up, the story I’m telling myself is that my grade on this midterm tells me how smart/valuable I am; then, what is true about me in the gospel story is that Jesus tells me I am so valuable that he would die for me, so while doing my best is important this grade doesn’t tell me my worth.
