I learned that living missionally is not just on a mission trip, rather it is a lifestyle. This will stick with me.

Why go on the PRAXIS mission trip?

We all have ideas about what it looks like to live on mission. But how do you turn your ideas into practice? That’s what “praxis” is all about.

PRAXIS welcomes you to come as you are, to be shaped by what we experience together, and to bring home a missional lifestyle that’s adaptable to any context.

Join us as we practise Christ-shaped witness with marginalized communities. Together we will demonstrate and describe the good news of Jesus in ways that honour people and the ongoing work of our local partners. On past PRAXIS trips, we’ve walked alongside newcomers to Canada, people experiencing homelessness, Indigenous folks, university students, and others.

We will also live, serve, and reflect on our experiences as a team. Past participants have described this missional community as transforming, challenging, and healing.

The foundation of a PRAXIS trip is our life with God. We’ll learn spiritual practices to remind us of the gospel, which inspire and sustain our missional habits.

Are you ready to join God in his work of renewing and restoring all things? Join us on PRAXIS!

Missional Living

You’ll live out—and not just know about—the good news of Jesus. As you partner with local organizations, you’ll become aware of the breadth of God’s redemptive work in Canadian cities.

Unforgettable Community

You’ll live as a community, practising spiritual friendships, growing in integrity, and learning life skills as you serve and lead your teammates.

Time with God

You’ll have time to simply be with God, exploring new types of prayer, reflecting on your life story, and establishing healthy spiritual rhythms.

What happens on PRAXIS?

A typical day could look something like this:

Morning

You grab breakfast from the kitchen before joining your team for morning prayer. Together, you reflect on the parable of the Good Samaritan, by imagining yourself in the story and considering how God meets you there.

Then your team welcomes a local Cree pastor who shares what reconciliation means to him and how he is trying to embody the gospel as he leads his church community while serving on band council.

Afternoon

Your team takes transit to the Edmonton Native Healing Centre (ENHC). You enjoy a tasty soup and bannock lunch, stepping out of your comfort zone to chat with a mom and her young son who sit across from you. She says they come here every week, and you learn that she grew up in the Northwest Territories and misses her community there. You share about your own feelings of homesickness. As you talk about what you do when you feel alone, you learn that she follows Jesus too. Your short conversation sparks lots of questions about culture and faith, and you’re excited for the cultural training that Harold from ENHC will lead the next day.

After lunch, you circle up with your team and process your experiences. You share about your conversation and how you were surprised to discover that you were sitting with a sister in Christ. Your teammates have questions like yours, and some share their still-in-process responses, which give you more to think about.

You transit home and do some prep for a barbecue your team is hosting for a homelessness prevention program on the weekend.

Evening

There aren’t any ministry activities planned for the evening, so you and your roommates watch a movie and process your day together. They pray for you, your homesickness, and your new friend from lunch. You rest to prepare for another day of Christ-shaped witness and missional learning.

Note: Trip cost includes housing, food, and mission trip activities. Participants will have the option to raise additional funds to cover their travel to Edmonton.
