PRAXIS taught me what life with God means, how to contextualize the gospel in my life and the lives of others, and that God’s mission was more beautiful than I realized.
Shone, 2022
We all have ideas about what it looks like to live on mission. But how do you turn your ideas into practice? That’s what “praxis” is all about. PRAXIS welcomes you to come as you are, to be shaped by what we experience together, and to bring home a missional lifestyle that’s adaptable to any context.
Join us as we practise Christ-shaped witness with marginalized communities. Together we will demonstrate and describe the good news of Jesus in ways that honour people and the ongoing work of our local partners. On past PRAXIS trips, we’ve walked alongside newcomers to Canada, people experiencing homelessness, Indigenous folks, university students, and others.
We will also live, serve, and reflect on our experiences as a team. Past participants have described this missional community as transforming, challenging, and healing.
The foundation of a PRAXIS trip is our life with God. We’ll learn spiritual practices to remind us of the gospel, which inspire and sustain our missional habits.
Are you ready to join God in his work of renewing and restoring all things? Join us on PRAXIS!
You’ll have time to simply be with God, exploring new types of prayer, reflecting on your life story, and establishing healthy spiritual rhythms.
You’ll live as a community, practising spiritual friendships, growing in integrity, and learning life skills as you serve and lead your teammates.
You’ll live out—and not just know about—the good news of Jesus. As you partner with local organizations, you’ll become aware of the breadth of God’s redemptive work in Canadian cities.
A typical day could look something like this:
Morning
You grab breakfast from the kitchen before joining your team for morning prayer. Together, you reflect on Revelation 20-21. Each day of this trip has brought different examples of how people are already living into this vision of God’s kingdom. It’s also brought a deep sense of longing—and hope—for the renewal of all things.
Today’s activities are focused on newcomers to Canada. A P2C-Students staff member shares how Jesus was a refugee and how he crossed cultural barriers to show and tell the good news.
Afternoon
Your team eats a quick lunch and transits to Journey Home Community, an organization that provides short-term housing and other supports to refugee claimants. One of their staff shares about the many ways they come alongside newcomers and you’re inspired by the practical ways they are living out their faith in Christ.
Your PRAXIS team has come prepared to cook and serve a meal, and you spend the afternoon making wraps and mixing juice. As you serve dinner, you joke with a kind man from Haiti. He shares with you about what his life was like before he fled to Canada, and you realize you know very little about this country that’s not very far away. You feel challenged to pay more attention to what’s happening around the world, and you wonder if your city has anything like Journey Home Community.
Evening
You end the day by gathering with your team to process your experiences. For example, while one of your teammates spoke to an Indian refugee with a newborn son, she kept thinking about baby Jesus as a refugee. She understood in a new way how Jesus could say, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
You reflect on such lessons as you climb into bed, anticipating another day of missional learning and Christ-shaped witness.
Note: Trip cost includes housing, food, and mission trip activities. Participants will have the option to raise additional funds to cover their travel to Vancouver.
